And…we’re in Munich!
Having left our 5-star Hotel Agata, next our private Driver Sebastian deserves a special mention. He drove us everywhere in his ‘shitty’ car:
(Shitty is Agata’s thoughts only, it’s actually an amazing blacked out BMW 5XM which was the perfect car for the long distance drives that Sebastian loves)
After 9+ hours we arrived in this tiny German village called Paindorf to find our little cottage. It was quaint, but in the middle of nowhere. You couldn’t get a coffee or a bottle of water without travelling 5km 2 villages away. My bad.
Anyway, the main attraction was the Octoberfest and there was a train that took us straight there the next morning (that bit I researched :)).
What a festival! All our Aussie friends have praised it, so we had high expectations. And, we were not disappointed.
The area was huge! Massive tents that hold thousands of people (the largest holds around 8,000!), tables inside and out. A band playing in each. Beer by the litre. Good food. Expensive.
Salty —> Thirsty —> Hungry —> Salty….. [Repeat]
(This pickled cucumber was 6 euros! It was delicious!)
As the evening approached and the beers kept being poured, crowds gathered and the fun really began. I’ve known the man for 20 years, and didn’t realise he spoke and sang in fluent German :)
We managed to get these two clowns home on the train somehow on the last train to Paindorf.
They were a little rusty the next day, I’m not gonna lie, but managed to pull themselves together for a great day trip out to the picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle.
This is the castle made famous as the Disney logo, and is the one on thousands of jigsaw puzzles.
Build as a getaway from the pressure by Mad Ludwig, then king of Bavaria.
The best of the views came from the bridge over the river further up the ravine - breathtaking.
Our time together finally and inevitably came to an end, and Agata and Sebastian returned to their lives the following day, whilst we took a leisurely walk around the old town of Munich and visited the Octoberfest for one more cheeky pork knuckle sanga.
I miss your face already dear friend! Till next time! xxx
Thank you for making our holiday so special!
